Prevention & Early Intervention
School programs, SBIRT, family-based prevention.
Primary and secondary prevention strategies have shifted toward evidence-based, developmentally targeted interventions following decades of disappointing results from didactic programs like DARE. The track will cover the Strengthening Families Program, LifeSkills Training, and Communities That Care as prevention infrastructures with replicated outcomes data. SBIRT (Screening, Brief Intervention, Referral to Treatment) implementation in adolescent primary care, integrated with the CRAFFT and S2BI screeners, will receive dedicated sessions. Additional content covers naloxone in schools post-2024 federal guidance, fentanyl awareness curricula, social-host liability laws, and the youth vaping and nicotine pouch (Zyn) prevention landscape.
